EuroPride announces official Anthem :: "The Bells of Freedom" by BWO
The music video for the EuroPride theme song "The Bells of Freedom" is based on a competition called Queer Idol. BWO are the judges, extremely disappointed in all the not-so-successful versions of Elvis, Marilyn, Kiss, Michael Jackson, Abba and more - who they are forced to view before the obvious winner steps forward; a Village People consisting of the members of BWO and Army of Lovers (first time together in eight years!). The winners, however, are very generous and allow all the contestants to join at the end of their song.
"The song "The Bells Of Freedom," and most of all the lyrics, refers both to the homphobia still prevalent in Europe, and then most of all in Sweden's neighboring countries to the east and south, but also to the homphobia still prevalent in Sweden, typically examplified by the fact that Sweden still only allows for traditional heteronormative marriages between a man and a woman. Here Sweden, once seen as a model of liberalism and tolerance, now painfully has become a follower rather than a leader. Perhaps the wedding bells in the chourus section of "The Bells Of Freedom" can help change this situation?" - BWO
BWO are proud to be the ones behind this year's EuroPride theme song, and are really happy that Army of Lovers wanted to appear in their video to be premiered Friday July 11 at 09:30pm CET on www.stockholmpride.org
BWO will perform live on EuroPride together with their friends Alcazar and September the evening of August 2 after the huge parade on the streets of Stockholm.
Check back for full coverage of EuroPride, beginning July 30th. Jason Salzenstein, EDGE's own (fabulous) Style & Travel Editor, will be in Stockholm reporting back on the parade, the parties, and most of all the scandals and hot guys!
